We’re pleased to announce that our brands have taken home two trophies from the 2018 World Car Awards, a program organised and judged by automotive journalists from 25 countries around the globe. The awards were announced at the New York International Auto Show.
The brand-new Audi A8 has taken home the award for 2018 World Luxury Car and marks the ninth time the brand has taken home one of these coveted awards. The A8 had stiff competition from the start and had to prove itself against the Porsche Cayenne and Porsche Panamera.
Peter Mertens, Board Member for Technical Development at Audi AG commented on the win; “This award is a special honour for us and our flagship model. The Audi A8 is an innovation driver for our entire industry. With its innovative touch control system, consistent broad-based electrification and the technical prerequisites for highly automated driving, the A8 sets new standards in automotive engineering.”
The judges then announced the Volkswagen Polo as the winner of the 2018 World Urban Car award, making six wins in total for Volkswagen. As with the A8, the Polo had to prove itself against some of the most popular vehicles in its class, including the Ford Fiesta and Suzuki Swift, but thanks to its great technology, high quality materials and fun driving experience, the Polo proved its gold winning credentials.
Head of Volkswagen Design, Klaus Bischoff added that “the whole team at Volkswagen is delighted to have won the 2018 World Urban Car award” describing the new Polo as “a pillar of the brand” and “sportier and more grown up than its predecessors.” We certainly agree, and think the new Polo is one of our favourite additions to the Volkswagen line-up.
