What Car? have revealed their top car picks for families with three young children. Whilst SUVs remain a popular choice due to their size, safety and interior space, you may want to also check out our range of MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles) to see if these would be a better choice for your family.
The team at What Car? tested no less than 16 SUV and MPV models to see which would reign supreme for families needing to use three child seats. Many SUVs are only able to accommodate two, so for larger families the choices can sometimes be limited. The test discounted use of the front passenger seat (reserved for an adult), meaning that for the test the three child seats were fitted to the second and third rows where available.
We’re pleased to report that of the five winning categories, our brands won for three; Best Large MPV for Three Child Seats went to the SEAT Alhambra, Best Small MPV for Three Child Seats went to the Volkswagen Touran, and finally the Best Luxury SUV for Three Child Seats was awarded to the Audi Q7.
The SEAT Alhambra is packed full of technology and clever features including power-operated rear sliding doors and tailgate, a start/stop system to improve fuel consumption, a media touchscreen, cruise control and front and rear parking sensors. There’s a 150PS petrol engine or three diesels up to 177PS for that little extra power should you require a car with towing ability.
We’ve then got the Volkswagen Touran, which is available in 5 trim levels making it suitable for every family. Standard spec on the Touran includes roof rails, colour touchscreen media system and fold-flat seats. Opt for the top-of-the-range R-Line model for 18” alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, climate control and navigation.
Finally, winning the luxury SUV category, the Audi Q7 is one of the largest Audi SUVs available, capable of carrying up to seven passengers. The Q7 has a real stand-out road presence, and is available in four trim levels from Sport up to the luxurious Vorsprung which sits on huge 22” alloy wheels, has Audi’s stunning Virtual Cockpit and uses adaptive air suspension for smooth ride comfort on a wide range surfaces.
If you’re beginning your search for your next family car and require some help working out which model would suit you, our teams are always here to help.
