The yearly What Car? awards are a great way to introduce yourself to not only the latest, but the most practical, fastest and most stylish cars currently available on the market. A whole host of categories means there’s plenty of chances for our brands to show off just how great they are and fortunately, following the 2019 awards, we’ve now got lots of ‘cars of the year’ to share with you.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
Kicking off the awards, the hardy Volkswagen Amarok won the Pick-up of the Year, thanks to its off-road ability and cabin full of comfort and technology. The What Car? team picked out the Trendline 204PS as their choice, opting for an automatic gearbox to make light work of those long road miles. The Amarok is a real workhorse, and perfect for both families and businesses.
Next, we have the little Volkswagen Polo and its award for Small Car of the Year, which arrives alongside yet another win at the Company Car Today CCT100 awards. The judges described the Polo as having ‘no weaknesses in its armour’ and commended its strong resale values and refinement. There’s a range of engines and some exciting colours to choose from, why not book your test drive?
Taking home gold for Small SUV of the Year is the mighty SEAT Arona, which won the same award back in 2018. Proving itself as a fantastic all-round compact car, the Arona SE Technology was picked as the perfect model and was praised for its price, ride, practicality and fun handling. What Car?’s editor described it as ‘grown-up to drive’ with a ‘settled, sophisticated ride’, so be sure to check out the Arona if you’re searching for your next SUV.
The exciting award for the brand-new Sports SUV of the Year category went to our very own CUPRA Ateca. Since the launch of the CUPRA sub-brand, the CUPRA Ateca has arrived with a bang and provides plenty of design, comfort and safety features to be considered as the perfect performance SUV. Audi continued the award-winning trend on the night with two wins; the Q7 took home Luxury SUV of the Year and the A5 Coupe took home Best Coupe of the Year. The Q7 is our largest Audi SUV model and provides heaps of space and luxury, with the very latest in Audi technology available. The judges chose the 45 TDI quattro S line as the pick of the bunch, commending its limousine-like ride, hot-hatch acceleration and MPV-beating space. The A5 Coupe was equally impressive and beat the BMW 2 Series and Aston Martin DB11 for first place. Its sleek body and impressive boot space make it a practical choice and with competitive company car tax rates, it’s a fantastic option for commuters too.
Finally, we can’t forget our most award-winning brand, the brilliant ŠKODA, who we’re sure just about pick up every award going. Family Car of the Year was awarded to the Octavia, a long time favourite and perfect balance of comfort and style. The judges loved how much space it offered to both passengers and luggage, and summed it up as ‘the very definition of the ideal family car.’ Hot on the heels of the Octavia, the Superb held its title of Estate Car of the Year for the fourth year in a row. The What Car? team commented, ‘it isn’t just space where the Superb excels. It rides smoothly too, and the 2.0 litre diesel engine easily manages motorway trips or B-road overtakes with plenty of low-end pulling power to ensure it’ll manage even if you’re carrying your family and a small sofa.’ The Superb also picked up Best Used Large Car and Best Used Estate and overall Car of the Year 2019 titles at from Diesel Car and Eco magazine.

All vehicles that are sold by the Vindis Group are subject to an administrative / preparation fee of £90 inc VAT. For new vehicles this charge covers the cost of mechanically preparing the vehicle for delivery, the administration of new ownership documentation and final preparation for customer handover.
For used vehicles, this charge covers a full history and provenance check prior to being advertised for sale ensuring no financial risk or charge has been levied against the vehicle, that the vehicle has never been written off or stolen and final preparation for customer handover.
Vindis Group believe this level of preparation is crucial in ensuring we provide the highest level of customer satisfaction, for which the Vindis Group is renowned for.
For this reason, and in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as of 6.00pm 23/03/2020 we made the decision to temporarily close all Vindis showrooms to members of the public. Whist we know this may cause some disappointment, our priority is to protect the well-being of our employees and customers in line with the latest Government guidance. For customers due to take delivery of your new vehicle we will be in contact and will aim to complete your transaction in a safe and compliant manner.
For those customers that are booked in for Aftersales care, all bookings other than those for Key Workers (as identified by the Government’s latest listings), urgent MOT’s and breakdowns are in the process of being cancelled; and each existing booking will have been confirmed with our team in advance of your visit to site. For other routine service and maintenance items, we will be in touch to re-arrange your booking for as soon as we re-open.
In order to facilitate the above, and in order to protect both you and our staff, our dealerships will be locked for the foreseeable future, and so upon arrival, please follow the instructions on the door in order to gain access. Additionally, it is vital that we ask that you do not attend any of our sites without having had a clear and specific communication that you qualify under one of the above guidelines, and we thank you in advance for complying with this difficult and possibly disruptive decision. Please also note that we have amended our service opening hours during this period to 08:30 – 17:30 Monday to Friday and closed during weekends.
