The latest Touareg, which joined the Volkswagen range in June, has beaten competition to take home two of the top towing awards available; the Parkers Best Tow Car 2019 and best in class at the 2018 Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year awards.
The Touareg showcases some of Volkswagen’s latest technology, including the 15” Innovision Cockpit with its high-res glass display, and touch, gesture and voice control. Comfortable and spacious for all the family, the Touareg is also tough enough to take on the harshest of terrains, making it a fantastic all-round family car. Helping it fight off the competition, Volkswagen’s optional Trailer Assist technology is a great choice for those who frequently two a trailer as this takes charge of steering for you, ultimately helping you regain more control of your vehicle and making light work of those tricky jobs.
Commenting on the Touareg’s Parkers Best Tow Car 2019 win, Keith Adams, Parkers’ editor, said “The Touareg wins out because it offers an impressive amount of tech for the money, including some very clever towing-assist systems. With its 3.5 tonne towing capacity it’s the perfect family car for those who need to pull hefty loads with ease.”
It’s second award win came from the Caravan and Motorhome Club, who chose the new Touareg as the best option to tow caravans over 1700kg. Their model of choice for the job was the Touareg R-Line Tech 3.0 V6 TDI 4MOTION with 286PS and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The R-Line Tech sits at the top of the range and offers the Innovision Cockpit as standard alongside navigation, 20” alloy wheels, high beam assist and memory package.
The Club’s judges commented, “The fantastic 3.0 litre V6 engine is quiet and refined with great pulling power, while the eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox never became flustered. Nicely weighted steering and a smooth, comfortable ride – coupled with great interior design – this is a brilliant tow car.”
