It’s always exciting announcing the arrival of a brand-new performance car, especially with a vehicle as instantly recognisable as the Audi R8. The new model is faster, and has a wider, more aggressive front, but maintains its racing DNA and incredibly fun riding experience.
Audi have kept the naturally aspirated V10 engine from the outgoing car, but have squeezed yet more power from it, meaning it now offers a 570PS quattro version (30PS more than the previous model) or a 620PS performance quattro version (adding an extra 10PS). From launch, both the Coupe and Spyder models will be available, meaning no waiting around for those popular convertible models. If 0-62mph times are your thing then the new R8 won’t let you down. It sprints to 62mph in just 3.4 seconds in Coupe form, or 3.5 seconds in Spyder form. Both models will reach a top speed of 200mph. The engines offer a truly remarkable driving experience; they’re lightning fast, high-revving and offer a unique sound.
The Audi drive select system offers Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual, with three additional programs on the 620PS Performance model for dry, wet and snow.
From the outside the new Audi R8 is visually different with a wider, flatter radiator grille. The front splitter is also wider and the diffuser has been drawn upwards to give a wider impression to the front of the vehicle. From the factory the R8 arrives on 19” wheels and black, or optional red, painted calipers. A choice of new colours, including interior stitching options are available, and there is of course Audi’s exclusive paint range if you should prefer something a little more unusual.
Sharing 50% of its components with the R8 LMS GT3 competition car, the Audi R8 truly is ‘born on the track, built for the roads’ and we look forward to welcoming this new model into our showrooms.
The new R8 will be available to order at your nearest Vindis Audi centre during the first quarter of 2019, but do get in touch with us if you would like to be informed of its launch at the earliest opportunity.
