When it comes to purchasing your first vehicle, no matter what age you are, there are many things to consider. Affordability, in terms of purchase price, insurance and maintenance costs is top of the list for many, but it’s also important to choose a car with a high safety rating, just in case things go wrong.
James Hillon, Director of Products at Co-op Insurance commented, “The fact that almost a third of young drivers have been involved in a road traffic incident in the first six months of driving highlights just how important it is to have a safe vehicle. You cannot put a price on safety. We want to intercept and engage young drivers on the importance of putting safety over price when purchasing a first car.”
For this reason, we were proud to find out that the much-loved ŠKODA Citigo has been named the UK’s Safest Used First Car 2017 by Co-op Insurance, in partnership with Thatcham Research.
To qualify for this award, all vehicles had to have a five-star EURO NCAP rating (the highest available, and thankfully a badge that all ŠKODA models wear), be affordable to insure, have emissions of 120g/km or lower and be widely available for under £5,000.
The Citigo has received plenty of awards and the latest is the icing on the cake for a brand who have had a very successful year so far. The Citigo features a robust body and comes with six airbags as standard on all models. SE models and above feature ESC stability control and for further levels of safety, buyers can opt for a car that has been fitted with the Safety Pack, which includes the City Safe System. This automatically applies the brakes if it detects hazards and the driver does not react quickly enough.
