Volkswagen California 6.1

09.08.2019

Volkswagen Commercial has released their very first images of the California 6.1, and we’re looking forwards to this new model joining us. Available in three trims, Beach, Coast and Ocean, this new campervan is an exciting prospect for those who love to spend their free time exploring.

Presenting the new model’s redesigned exterior and improved interior, updates include the digital control unit, enhanced sleeping areas and a range of refreshed technology.

Engine

No matter where you plan on taking your California, you’ll never be short of power as Volkswagen are launching the new California 6.1 with highly efficient 2.0L turbodiesel engines. These offer power outputs of up to 199PS, and you can opt for all-wheel drive to complement these if required.

Exterior

The exterior of the new California 6.1 has received a striking upgrade too, with the Ocean’s chrome plated radiator grille forming a single unit with new LED daytime running lights. A chrome strip also adorns the new bumper design giving the whole vehicle a sleek new look.

Interior

Inside you’ll find a whole host of updated features, including a double USB socket, new aluminium handles for all doors and push buttons for accessing the sink, cooker and fridge. Smooth sliding doors now replace the rear cupboard shutters, and the cupboards themselves can now be fitted with stylish Bright Oak and Graphite Grey wood grains.

The Sleeping areas in the California 6.1 will offer a relaxing sprung base, whilst the double seat that provides a further bed, can also be transformed into a comfortable living area.

When sleeping in the California 6.1 you will not need to panic about blocking out the early morning sunrise, as Volkswagen have included the new sunrise function, which uses individually selectable LEDs in the roof to slowly increase lighting levels to the desired level over a certain length of time. This function is controlled the same as you would the other camper settings on the California 6.1, using a newly developed control panel in the overhead console.

When looking at the interior of the new California you will notice the new features such as an improved infotainment system and integrated eSIM, connected to Volkswagen We Connect features.

Finally, the 6.1 features Electromechanical steering which allows drivers to choose from a number of options designed to make driving safer and easier. These are set to include driving assistance systems.

The Volkswagen California 6.1 is set to launch at the end of August at the Caravan-Salon in Düsseldorf.
