The future of e-mobility has been revealed at the recent Geneva International Motor Show in the form of the I.D. VIZZION, the flagship of Volkswagen’s I.D. family. The concept will become a reality very soon and will reach roads by 2022 at the latest.
CEO Dr Herbert Diess, said, “The I.D. VIZZION shows what our brand is capable of in terms of technology, design and quality. It is the most personal, most emotional and most individual Volkswagen of all time. And it also shows that, even in the electric, self-driving future, we will be using desirable, expressive and individual automobiles, and not just uniform tin boxes.”
Around the size of the current Passat the fully autonomous vehicle will replicate a comfortable lounge interior and offers a range of up to 650km. It’s one of the first cars to have the potential of artificial intelligence incorporated into its concept in order to self-learn over time and react immediately to new situations. Facial recognition will allow for a personalised drive and will stop the vehicle falling into the wrong hands. As a level 5 autonomous vehicle (meaning fully autonomous with no steering wheel, pedals etc.) the interior is huge and provides the ultimate in transport for an individual or family. Safety comes thanks to integrated laser scanners, ultrasonic sensors and radar sensors, including an array of front, rear and side cameras.
Part of the I.D. range, which Volkswagen will be launching from 2020, the premium saloon VIZZION will join the compact SUV I.D. CROZZ and a van MPV I.D. BUZZ. Uniquely, and futuristically designed, the range provides a whole new method of transport for customers, for emission-free driving and revolutionises the way we could be moving from A to B.
The Volkswagen I.D. range is a hugely exciting prospect and we can’t wait to reveal full details, and specification of the real launch model.
